About Us:
At Saltlight Homeschool, we are committed to working alongside parents to disciple students to be what Jesus calls them to be- Salt and Light. (Matthew 5:13-15)
Salt serves multiple, seemingly contradictory, purposes. When added to food it enhances the flavor, while in a wound it is burning, uncomfortable. In food preservation, it pulls every molecule of liquid out of the meat but in our bodies, it facilitates hydration. When Christ calls us to be ‘salt that does not lose its saltiness', He is calling us to look like Him and be able to meet each situation appropriately. We want that for our students- to be wise and discerning, able to respond in a Christlike manner to any number of situations.
Did you know that ‘darkness’ doesn’t exist in its own right- it is simply a word to describe the absence of light. Darkness grows, and infects things when light is not present. Jesus is THE light of the world, and in Matthew 5:16, He calls us to ‘let our light shine before others, so that they may see our good works and give glory to your Father in Heaven.’ We desire our students to grow not only in their understanding of subjects like Language Arts, Science and History, but also in their understanding of who God is and who He calls them to be in his son, Jesus Christ, so that they look so much like Jesus that people can’t help but take notice.
How do we do that?
- Parents are the ultimate teacher and discipler of their child, and we are here to come alongside and support you in that endeavor – YOU have final say on assignments and grades.
- Parents know their children’s learning needs best and should have input in the curriculums their student is using – YOU have input on curriculums that your upper school student will be using and YOUR concerns about class dynamics and teachers will be taken seriously.
- Community is sweeter and better when everyone is invested in each other. (Phil 2:4) – EVERYONE will be assigned a ‘buddy’ to build up, encourage, and include all year and our hope is that this will help encourage all of our families to get to know one another and avoid feeling isolated.
- Though classes will be level specific, we will be coming together as a whole community weekly for Bible.
- Lower school student classes will include at least two grade levels and our afternoon extension time will include multiple grade levels in one class.
- Upper school student classes will meet with mixed grade levels for all subjects depending on student proficiency to satisfy high school graduation requirements.
- Classes are more fruitful when everyone participates – Students will be expected to participate and given opportunities to do so in ways that both encourage and empower them.
- Communication is key to meeting expectations – Expectations will be clearly communicated in a timely and consistent manner.
